Hand-Tooled Monogram Leather Guitar Strap
Our good buddy, Lyle, asked us to make him a "simple" custom leather guitar strap. His only request was that it be antique finished with his initials in a "Fat" font.
Lyle is a groovy guy - so we went with a Groovy style of lettering for his initials.
Like our other custom leather guitar straps, this one is a two-piece build, made from beautiful Hermann Oak leather. We drew up Lyle's initials using a funky 70's style font (because that's the vibe Lyle gives me). I mocked it up, showed it to him and he liked it. So, we hand-tooled Lyle's groovy initials into the vegetable-tanned Hermann Oak leather with a reverse bevel. Nuthin' fancy here. We chose a reverse bevel because Lyle wanted an "antiqued" finish. With the beveling facing inward, we can catch all of that "gooey goodness" from the antique gel int the letters. This will give them that classic antique look and will last forever. |

We slathered up this custom guitar strap with a rustic Eco- Flow Antique Tan gel finish from Tandy Leather. Then, we lined this beauty a plush Coffee Brown pigskin suede. This soft, luxurious suede gave Lyle some "grip" to keep his bass from slipping while getting down! It also provides a soft feel, so it's very comfortable to wear. Using our Cobra Class 4P industrial stitcher from The Leather Machine Co., we stitched it all together with a "natural" color (my favorite) #277 bonded nylon thread - also provided by Cobra Steve. This is my absolute favorite thread, as it is gorgeous on almost any shade of natural or brown leather and provides long-lasting durability. |
